Simpsonville receives $20K grant from Duke Energy for mobile radios

Grants enable City to keep Simpsonville taxes among lowest in SC

Simpsonville, S.C. — The City of Simpsonville is excited to announced that it has received an emergency preparedness grant totaling $20,000 from Duke Energy.

The Simpsonville Fire Department will use the grant to acquire additional mobile radios to ensure Simpsonville first responders have the tools they need to keep the public safe. Simpsonville City Administrator Dianna Gracely said the City and Fire Department are appreciative of the grant.

“The grant helps keep our critical communications equipment current so that we can best serve our residents, business owners and visitors,” Gracely said. “In a continuing effort to keep City of Simpsonville taxes among the lowest in the state, City staff has worked hard to secure funding from outside sources like Duke Energy.”

As hurricane season begins, preparing for severe weather—in addition to the types of calls that the Fire Department receives every day, is crucial for public safety. Simpsonville Fire Chief Wesley Williams said the Fire Department is grateful to Duke Energy.

“These radios will ensure that anytime that off-duty staff are called into service, they have the equipment to adequately communicate during emergencies,” Chief Williams said.
